FAQ

Questions people usually ask before they trust a tool like this

These answers describe the current CalmCheck product as it exists right now, not some future version.

Is CalmCheck a doctor?

No. CalmCheck is not a doctor, not a diagnosis, and not emergency care. It is a support tool for health-anxiety patterns and symptom spirals.

What is the app actually good at?

It is strongest when someone is escalating into the worst-case story and needs a calmer, more grounded read of the pattern, plus a way to track what actually happened later.

What should I type into CalmCheck?

Use plain language and include specifics: what it is, where it is, when it started, and what changed around it. Timing and triggers make the response much better.

What is the optional fear field for?

If you already know the fear your mind is stuck on, type it there. That helps CalmCheck answer the exact story your anxiety is pushing instead of only inferring it.

Why does CalmCheck show a fast result first and then a deeper one?

Because getting you out of a live spiral matters more than making you wait for the perfect response. The app now gives a fast first-pass read, then loads the deeper source-backed analysis after that.

What happens if I type something dangerous?

CalmCheck runs a deterministic Safety Gate first. If your wording matches certain emergency-style patterns, it interrupts the reassurance flow and tells you to seek urgent help instead.

What if I mention depression or say I need a therapist?

CalmCheck should shift the response toward human support, including therapist-finder and crisis resources when appropriate, instead of pretending the issue is only physical.

Do I need an account?

No, unless HIPAA mode is enabled. Guest use is available in the normal setup, but a signed-in account is better for synced history, export, and delete controls.

Does CalmCheck save my checks?

Yes. Guest checks stay in your browser. Signed-in checks are stored server-side so they can follow your account across sessions and devices.

Does CalmCheck sell my symptom data?

No. CalmCheck is not built as an ad-tech product. The app can store first-party product analytics such as page views, CTA clicks, sign-in events, and check completions, but those analytics are meant to measure product performance and do not include raw symptom text.

Does it remember past scares?

Yes. CalmCheck keeps a history so the Anxiety Log can show what you feared before and what actually happened after. That is one of the strongest parts of the product.

Can it remind me to check back in later?

Yes. You can opt into browser-based check-ins. CalmCheck can ask whether a symptom resolved, improved, stayed the same, or got worse.

What if I still feel scared after reading the result?

That is normal. CalmCheck tries to end with a next action instead of leaving you stranded with more thoughts. If the symptom is clearly worsening or feels seriously wrong, stop using the app and get medical help.
